BACKGROUND INFORMATION
My ten-week final was placement was in FCP School.
FCP School is an independent Public School operating within the Government system. FCP School has now entered in its twenty ninth year of operation. The school has about 770 full time enrolments, ranging from pre-primary up to Year 6 students.
The school is a large primary school and is part of a strong community which is supportive of its strategic directions. There is a changing demographic within the local area and the staff value the diversity of students and the inclusive practices employed within the school.
The school runs the Specialist Programs in Music, Visual Arts, LOTE and Physical Education. The school also runs SAER (students at educational risk) program to support children with specific learning needs in literacy and numeracy. Early intervention has been one of the key focus areas of FCP School for many years, with school based benchmarks and effective relationships with parents.
The teaching and learning programs at FCP School continue to provide high-quality learning outcomes for students. The school staff is committed to provide an educational program that meets the needs of all children and embraces the principles of learning and teaching from the Curriculum Framework.
The vision for FCP School is:
- To provide a distinctive learning environment with quality teaching and equitable opportunities for all students to achieve.
- To provide support and opportunities for all students to realise their full potential, becoming lifelong learners, embed resilience and social and emotional skills, to promote positive relationships with the community with a global perspective.
- To value inclusivity, diversity and promote student success through a wide range of opportunities that enables every child to reach their academic potential and be a good world citizen.
My final practicum was undertaken in Year 5 in two classes, Room15 and Room 16. Total number of students combined in Rm 15 and Rm 16 was 55. These students came from a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities. There were two students with special needs. A permanent Education Assistant was assigned to the class to assist the two students with special needs. An outside of school hours care is offered after school throughout the term by an external agency.
